Slapfish - Lobster Sandwich

Slapfish, which calls itself a “modern seafood shack,” has swum up the coast from Southern California.

It’s a transplanted New Jersey chef’s quick-seafood concept, and the first NorCal location has opened in San Jose at the Westgate West shopping center.

Andrew Gruel launched his ‘shack”-style food truck in 2011, and the idea turned into a brick-and-mortar chain, with 15 locations in Southern California and around the United States. An expansion is under way, with restaurants coming soon to Indiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico, South Carolina, D.C. — and London.

On the Slapfish menu, East Coast meets West Coast. Consider one of the restaurant’s popular dishes, the Clobster Grilled Cheese, a mix of crab and lobster. For Jersey shore traditionalists, there’s a Lobster Grinder; for West Coasters, there are Shrimp Tacos, Poke Bowls and seafood salads. For fries and chowder fanatics, there are Chowder Fries.

Sides include slaw, house-made pickles and chips and salsa.

Details: Open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at 5297 Prospect Road, San Jose. www.slapfishrestaurant.com
